Jeffrey Spears

Jeffrey Allen Spears, 52, of Sheffield, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at OSF St. Francis, Peoria.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13th at Bunker Hill Church, Buda.  Pastor Stephen Myong will officiate.  Cremation rites will be accorded after the services.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral and Cremation Services, 401 W. Front, St., Annawan.  Memorials may be made to Camp Hertko Hollow, 501 Grand Ave. Des Moines, IA 50309 or Bunker Hill Church, 322 School St., Buda, IL 61314.

Jeff was born September 15, 1963 in Geneseo, IL, the son of Jerry and Barbara (DeCraene) Spears.  He graduated from Annawan High School in 1981; received his Bachelor’s degree from Blackburn College, Carlinville, IL; and had taken graduate classes from Western Illinois University.  He was united in marriage to Diane Miller in 1987in Sheffield, IL, and later married Michelle Blythe on June 6, 2009 in Buda, IL.  She survives.

Jeff had worked at Moose Heart for several years, he then worked at Covenant Children’s Home, Princeton; later worked with Foster Care for YSB; and had then been a teacher for Bureau Valley School District until his death.  He was a member of Bunker Hill Church, where he served as a Deacon.  Jeff was also camp counselor for 25 years at Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for children with diabetes.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle; a son, Jacob Spears, Rock Falls; an adopted daughter, Sarah Spears, Sheffield; three step-children, Jeremy McCaffrey, Danielle McCaffrey, and Connar McCaffrey; three grandchildren, Sabriel, Liberty, and Alexander; his parents, Jerry and Barbara Spears, Sheffield; and two sisters, Tina (Mike) Roberts, and Terianne (Tom) Green.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Spears; and his grandparents.
