James Ludwig

September 1, 1949 — April 23, 2022

Geneseo

James “Jim” Ludwig, 72, passed away on April 23, 2022, at home with his son and daughter by his side. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and no services to be held.  Stackhouse Moore is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim was born September 1, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, son of Joseph and Eleanor (Behrens) Ludwig. The family moved to Davenport, IA in 1963, after his father passed away.

After graduating from Davenport West High School, Jim attended Ellsworth College where he continued to play football. He married Nancy Raschke, September 1973 in Geneseo. They had two children. After their son was born they moved from Davenport to Geneseo where Jim fell in love with the country life. Jim enjoyed making championship duck and goose calls. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Jim loved watching ball games and talking about sports with everybody. He also enjoyed fishing, swimming, spending time outside, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play in the backyard. One of his highlights in his life was watching his grandson play baseball and his granddaughter play basketball and accomplish so much. Jim was an incredibly loving father and grandfather.

Jim worked at Caterpillar for 42 years before retiring where he was also a Union Steward and loved by all of his co-workers.

Jim is survived by his loving children, Justin (Jenny) Ludwig, Geneseo; Ashley (Heath) Clark, Geneseo; six grandchildren, Keyaira, Kammie, Kruiz, Harrison, Bentley and Fenna; a brother Joseph (Sandy) Ludwig, Atlanta, GA; and sisters, Marianne (David) Woods, Clearwater, FL, and Joanne (Tony) Rita, Thousand Oaks, CA. A special thank you to his good friends, Jeff Lemm and Joe Whipka; and loving nurse, Jackie Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Ann Schaubroeck.
