Irene Toft, 91, of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Allure of Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1st, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. Rev. John Knueppel will officiate. Inurnment services will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henry County Humane Society or the First Baptist Church of Cambridge.
Leda Irene Martin was born December 27, 1929 in Cambridge, the daughter of Joseph M. and Suzanne A. Bonham Martin. She was educated in Cambridge schools. Her marriage to Robert H. Pickens took place on August 7, 1946 in Galva. He died April 2, 1986. She married George W. Toft on May 15, 1990 in Cambridge. He passed away on May 3, 2010.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Henry Service Company in Cambridge until 1959. Irene then worked for the Henry County Circuit Clerk from 1965 to 1977, and finished her career at the Rock Island Arsenal where she worked from 1977 until retiring in 1987. Her memberships include the First Baptist Church of Cambridge, and she enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, and her family.
Those surviving are three daughters, Patricia May, Silvis, Barbara (William) Thompson, Davenport, Susan Pickens, East Moline, a son, Robert Pickens, Davenport, five grandchildren, Matthew May, Jessica May, Rebecca Burns, Amy Hursman, and Curtis Johnson, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Her parents, her two husbands, four sisters, and four brothers preceded her in death.
