Iener Olson

Iener P. Olson, 98, of Galva, formerly of Cambridge, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 15th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Rev. Dawn Keenan will officiate. Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery, rural Cambridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association

Iener was born October 29, 1912 in Andover Township, Henry County, Illinois, the son of Paul and Esther Fransene Olson. He was educated in rural Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1930. His marriage to Justina Record took place on February 13, 1936 in Chicago. The couple just recently celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary. In his early years, Iener worked running a dragline for a few years before he stated farming south of Cambridge. He retired in the late 1960’s and moved to Cambridge. Iener then worked for the Henry County Highway Department for ten years.


His memberships include the Cambridge Lutheran Church and the Henry County Farm Bureau. Iener helped form Galva School District #224 and then served on the Board of Education in the 1950’s. He later served on the Henry County Board of Supervisors during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.


Those surviving are his wife, Justina, a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Beckman, Durham, CA, a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Tina Olson, Los Lunas, NM, four grandchildren, Mike Beckman, Jill Berry, Jesse Olson, and Jody Olson. Other survivors include four great grandchildren, Megan and Jack Beckman, and Kailyn and Kevin Berry. His parents, two sisters, Helen Peterson and LaVina King, and a brother, Ralph Olson, preceded him in death.
