Herbert Lamb

August 19, 1928 — March 1, 2017

Herbert E. Lamb, 88, of Galva, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the OFS St. Luke Medical Center, Kewanee.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4th, at the Galva Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services.  Rev. Don Reul will officiate.  Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abilities Plus in Kewanee.

Herbert Edwin Lamb was born August 19, 1928 in Kewanee, IL, the son of Pearl and Louise DeDecke Lamb.  He was educated in Kewanee schools.  Herbert served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948.  His marriage to Jeanne L. Carper took place on February 18, 1951 in Galva.  She passed away on July 9, 2016. He was employed at the Galva Telephone Company from 1952 to 1973.  When the company was sold to Continental Telephone in 1973, the couple moved to Aledo, and he worked for Continental until retiring in 1985 and moving back to Galva.

His memberships included the First Baptist Church of Galva, and he was a former member of the Galva Fusiliers Drill Team.  Herbert had served as the fire chief for the Galva Fire Department for several years.  The couple wintered in Florida for 25 years after retirement.  He loved fishing and woodworking, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Those surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lorretta Lamb Warrren and Donald Warren, DeSoto, Missouri, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lori (Smith) Lamb, Gays, Illinois, and a granddaughter and her husband,  Nikki and Dalton Whetsell, Fairview Heights, IL.  Other survivors include two brothers, Richard Lamb, Batesville, MS, Eddie Lamb, Henry, IL, three sisters, Shirley George, Springfield, MO, Donna Homer, Scottsdale, AZ, and Nancy Tudder, Kewanee.   His parents, his wife, and two brothers, Bob and Don Lamb, preceded him in death.
