Helen Olson

Helen D. Olson, 97, formerly of Andover, died Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25 ^th , at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover.  Rev. Jan Veseth will officiate.  Burial will be at the Andover Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Augustana Lutheran Church Organ Fund.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Helen Dorothy Almquist was born June 17, 1917 in Moline, the daughter of Oscar F. and Emma Carlson              Almquist.  She was educated in Moline schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1934.  Her marriage to Russell C. Olson took place on December 7, 1941 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Moline.  He passed away on January 31, 2007.

She was employed by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Cambridge for several years, retiring in 1969.  The couple moved from the country into Andover when Russell retired in 1970 from farming.  Helen was an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities.

Those surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Loreta Olson, Bettendorf, and Robert and Brenda Olson, Brandon, MS; a foster son, Goyko Miloradich, Kodiac Alaska; grandchildren and (spouses), Angela (Michael) Loos, Sterling,  Ericca (David) Schmitt, Bedford, NH, Ryan (Mindy) Olson, Hampton, Steven (Jennifer) Hook, Bettendorf, Kevin (Alex) Hook, Chicago, and Karla Hook, Oakdale, MN, nine great grandchildren, Trevor and Ethan Sensor, Evan, Kameryn, and Hudson Schmitt,  Asha and Isabel Hook, and Katelyn and Kai Olson.  Other survivors include two step grandchildren, Jay (Heather) Simpson, Brandon, MS, and Leah (Eric) Allen, Lexington, MS, and four step great grandchildren, Sawyer and Reed Simpson, and Hayden and Luke Allen.  Her parents, her husband, and four brothers preceded her in death.
