Helen G. Mall, 85, of Moline, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, with her family at her home.  Private graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 24th, at the Bishop Hill Cemetery.  There will be no visitation. Helen Ann Gecan was born July 15, 1932 in Chicago, the daughter of Martin and Amelia (Kovachevich) Gecan.  She was educated in Chicago schools.  She graduated from Austin High School in 1950 and attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier in Chicago.  Her marriage to Joseph F. Mall took place on October 5, 1957 in Berwyn, IL.  He died on May 17, 2012.  Prior to her marriage, Helen first worked in the concession stand  at the Reina Theatre in Chicago.  She then worked as an elevator operator at Mandel Brothers department store in Chicago and as a phlebotomist at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn.  After her marriage, Helen was a homemaker.

She enjoyed nature and hiking in the woods.  At her home, Helen liked watching deer, birds, hummingbirds, and other animals in her yard, through her picture window.  The family recently visited Canton, Illinois, where her Croatian ancestors were coal miners.   She was especially fond of her Grandpa Blaz.  Helen enjoyed many visits to Bishop Hill over the years, especially attending music festivals in the park.

Those surviving are two daughters, Vicki Mall, Davenport, and Sharon Mall, Rock Island, one sister, Lorraine Prosek, Berkeley, IL, and three nephews.  Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
