In the early morning hours of May 14,
2023, Helen L. Lambert nee Gorham
passed away of natural causes in
Marion, Iowa at the age of 89.
Helen was born on October 28, 1933 in
Kewanee, Illinois to Oliver and Helen
Gorham. Helen grew up in Kewanee
and graduated from Kewanee High
School.
Helen met Leonard W. Lambert, the
love of her life, while in high school.
They were married on July 25, 1953
and celebrated their life together last
summer on their 69th wedding
anniversary. They enjoyed traveling
and spending time together building
their family.
Helen is survived by her husband
Leonard Lambert of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, as well as by their 3 daughters
Susan Connors (husband Mike) of
Peoria, Illinois; Karen Collins
(husband Jeff) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa;
and Ali (Alice) Eger (husband Chris)
of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Helen
was the picture of perfection in her role
as a mother. Her example to her girls
was exceptional. Helen was a loving,
kind, understanding, giving and
treasured mother. Helen also leaves
behind her 6 adored grandchildren
Erica Van Brakle of New Jersey,
Danielle Collins of Iowa, Emily Burke
of Illinois, Brent Collins of Oregon,
Robert Henderson of Illinois, and Cece
Connors of Illinois. She is also
survived by 7 great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her
parents Oliver and Helen Gorham,
brother Richard Gorham, and sister
Alice Hamilton all of Illinois.
Helen was involved in many groups,
and activities. Some of her most
memorable include P.E.O., Kings
Daughters, Women’s Guild, Meals on
Wheels, long time member of Central
Baptist Church in Springfield, IL and
the Builders SS class there, flower
gardening, cooking, being an avid
reader and Bridge player, and having
each grandchild come individually to
spend a “Dear Week” with their
grandparents. She was a room mother
at school, drove her girls to countless
lessons and activities, and attended
every one of their recitals and
programs, and the list goes on. Helen
was loved by both family and friends.
There will be a private family
celebration of Helen’s life per her
request.
