Harry C. Stearns. 97, formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at the Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin, Wisconsin. Graveside committal services with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27th, at Glennwood Cemetery, rural Coal Valley. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Harry Craig Stearns was born February 26, 1918 in Osco Township, Henry County, Illinois, the son of Harry and Ellen Brodine Stearns. He attended school in the Osco area and graduated from Orion High School in 1936. His marriage to Oney Ida Jones took place on December 27, 1939. He had 62 years with his beloved wife until her passing on October 23, 2002. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the bronze star for his participation in the Battle of the Buldge. He worked as a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking.
Those surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Thomas Sheridan, Baldwin, two grandchildren, Susan Sheridan and Craig Sheridan and his wife, Amber, a sister, Rosemary Giercis, rural Geneseo, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, his wife, four brothers, Warren, Glenn, John, and Robert Stearns, and a sister, Louise Carriere, preceded him in death.
