G. Eugene "Gene" Brown, 87, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28th, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull. Vicar Laurie Hensley will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Gayle Eugene Brown was born May 23, 1934, in Rio, Illinois, the son of Harold G. and Grace E. Dunavin Brown. He was a 1952 graduate of Orion High School. His marriage to Shirley Anderson took place on April 16, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. She passed away on December 6, 2021. Gene was a self-employed farmer in Andover Township from 1960 until retiring and moving to Cambridge in 2011.
His memberships included the Bethany Lutheran Church, where he also served on the Church Council, and Valley View Club, Cambridge. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Henry County Pork Producers for seven years and served as commissioner of the Edwards River Drainage District for three terms. His hobbies were golf, travel, and history. He enjoyed his grandchildren.
Those surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jo and Randy Ryan, son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Michaelene Brown, all of Cambridge, grandchildren, Jason M. (Amanda) Brown, Austin Brown, and Halie Jo Ryan. Other survivors include sisters, Joyce Martin, Missouri, and JoAnn Wiegel, Mt Pleasant, IA. His parents, his wife, and a sister, Jackie Butcher, preceded him in death
