Gene R. Moore, 86 of Geneseo died on Monday, April 12, 2021, at Woodridge Assisted Living Center, Geneseo surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Roger Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gene Raymond Moore was born November 27, 1934, in Caruthersville, MO the son of Byron and Charity “June” (Chilton) Moore. He was raised and educated mainly in Danville, IL graduating from Danville High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force serving in Taiwan. He married Geraldine Marlene Haurez on October 2, 1955, in Danville, IL. She died on February 7, 2021. He attended the University of Illinois majoring in Chemistry and while doing so he took a summer job for Harlan Johnson at the Johnson Funeral Home in Danville, IL. He found his true calling while working there and decided to go instead to Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, IL. He began his Funeral Directing career in Danville until 1969 when he moved to Kewanee, IL to work for Cavanaugh & Schueneman Funeral Home. He later became a partner with the addition of Sheffield and Annawan Funeral Homes moving to Sheffield in 1975. The partnership evolved into Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services with funeral homes in Sheffield, Annawan, Cambridge, Atkinson, Geneseo, & Galva, IL from which he retired in 1999.
Gene was a member of Stewart Lodge #92 A.F & A.M; Moline Consistory, and the Geneseo Moose Lodge. He had been a member of Hidden Lake Golf Course and Geneseo Country Club for many years. He loved to golf, go to the casino, and travel, especially to Florida where he enjoyed spending the winters for over 30 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl (David) Garrett, Bloomington, IL; sons, David (Ellen) Moore and Eric (Renee) Moore, all of Geneseo; grandchildren, Daniel (Colleen) Garrett, Christopher Garrett, Adam ( Amber) Moore, Kasey Moore, Alexander (Fiancée Bryanna Neria) Moore, Jonathan Moore, Elliott Moore; great-grandchildren, Eric Carriger, Mavrick Carriger, Bradley Garrett, Catherine Garrett, and Killian Garrett. He is also survived by his sister, Colleen Moore, Danville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers John "Buddy" Moore and William Moore.
