Florence I. Engnell, 103, of Geneseo, formerly of Andover, IL died on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at her residence at Liberty Village, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4th at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Rev. Clifford Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Florence Opalka was born September 13, 1911 in Cambridge Township, Henry County, IL the daughter of Hugo Paul and Annie (Walsh) Opalka. She was educated in rural Cambridge Schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1930. She then graduated from Illinois State University with a teaching degree in 1932. Her marriage to Lloyd Engnell took place on May 31, 1936 in Cambridge. He died on April 19, 2002.
Florence taught in rural Cambridge for five years after college and returned to teaching when her third son began his education for Orion Community Unit teaching literary arts at Andover School until retiring in 1975. She also assisted her husband on the farm in Andover Township.
Memberships include Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover and its Joy Circle, Viking Club, Moline, Valley View Country Club, Cambridge, and a charter member of Andover Historical Society. Florence enjoyed her family and watching their activities throughout the years, including basketball, soccer, 4-H and FFA. She loved taking care of animals, crafts, flower gardening, boating, attending horse races, and wintering in Florida for many years with her husband.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Becky Engnell, Orion, Bruce and Victoria Engnell, Macomb, and Kent and Carolyn Engnell, Coal Valley; grandchildren and spouses, Tim Engnell, Winterset, IA, Brian and Carol Engnell, Andover, Ty and Ronel Engnell, Good Hope, and Julie and Kevin Larson, Orion; 13 great grandchildren, Mikaela and Marshall Engnell, Rachel, Morgan, Matthew, Engnell, Haley, Alexandra, Hunter, Dalton, Lauren, and Parker Larson, and Mason and McLain Engnell; foster son and his wife, Cecil and Jane Stinson, Villa Park, IL. Florence was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
