Ethel M. Peterson, 93, of Geneseo, formerly of Cambridge, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6th, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Rev. Bob Atherton will officiate. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Moline Missionary Church.
The former Ethel May Eineder was born August 24, 1916 in Capac, Michigan, the daughter of Herkimer and Christine Smith Eineder. She attended school in Imlay City, MI. Her marriage to Maurice Verscheure took place on January 30, 1932 in Michigan. She later married Norman Peterson on November 27, 1973 in Moline. He died in May of 1987.
Mrs. Peterson owned and operated several restaurants in the Quad City area, Geneseo, and at Morrey’s Used Auto Parts near Cambridge. She also worked at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo, for ten years before retiring. Her memberships include the Moline Missionary Church, in the Fruitland Addition, and Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990. She enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, working on crafts, and being with her family.
Those surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Mary Verscheure, Cambridge, a daughter, Helen Burleson, Moline, nine grandchildren; Steve (Jan) Burleson, Orion, Pamela J.(Carl) Walz, Moline, John (Julie) Burleson, Moline, Matt Verscheure (Paul Eide), South San Francisco, CA, and Kathy (Boyd) Johnson, Josh (Angela) Verscheure, Charlie (Kim) Verscheure, Carla (John) Witter, and C.J (Brad) Wexell, all of Cambridge. Other survivors include 13 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Tinsman, Geneseo, and Jean Ferrier, Apple Valley, MN. Her parents, her husband, two sons, Charles “Bud” and Johnny, an infant son, Bobby, a son-in-law, Albert O. Burleson, a great great granddaughter, Avarie Grace, two brothers, and a two sisters preceded her in death.
