Elizabeth Weis

Elizabeth “Betty” Weis, 57, of Bulverde, Texas, formerly of Cambridge, died Saturday, November 8, 2014, at her home.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15 th , at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline.  Father Tom Alatzakis will officiate.  Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services.  Memorials may be made to the Betty Weis Memorial Fund.

Betty Gorden was born January 12, 1957 in Kewanee, the daughter of Emery J. and Martha A. Shaffer Gorden.  She was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1975.   Betty attended Western Illinois University in Macomb and graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  Her marriage to Gordon Wislander took place on March 19, 1977 in Cambridge.  They later divorced.  She married Michael J. Weis on August 6, 1989 in Cambridge.

She was employed for ten years at Midland Davis Corporation in Moline and then worked from 2000 to 2005 at Modern Woodmen of America in Rock Island.  Betty was an EMT with the Cambridge Ambulance Service in the early 1990’s.  In April of 2009, Betty and Mike started their “RV Life” and have traveled to 25 states since then.  They took their trip of a lifetime to Alaska this summer for their 25 th wedding anniversary.  She enjoyed golf, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Betty was an active member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in East Moline.

Those surviving are her husband, Mike, Bulverde, Texas, a son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Alyssa Wislander, Davenport, two daughters, Shelly Peterson, Mineral, and her fiancée, Andrew Verbeck, and Melissa Nanninga, Kewanee, and her fiancée, Robert McBride, ten grandchildren, Hannah, Lukas, and Jacob; Ashley; Ronnie, Larry, Robert, and Ryan;  Dallas and Arica, and four great grandchildren.  Other survivors include her siblings, Donald (Linda) Gorden, Kewanee, Alice Daugherty (Norman Stenzel), Champaign, IL, Richard Gorden, Elkhart, IN, Lynn (Larry) Rounds, Moline, Arlan (Mary beth) Gorden, Leoti, KS, and Robert Gorden, Waukee, IA.  Her parents, a son Duane Weis, and a half sister, Patricia Stokes, preceded her in death.
