Douglas E. Trudell, 77, of Cambridge, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 29th, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 212 E. Court St., Cambridge. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place after the service and a private inurnment service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Douglas was born January 14, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa. He was raised by his mother, Margaret Welch Trudell, and the family moved to Bettendorf when he was six years old. He was educated in Bettendorf area schools and graduated from Davenport Central High School. Doug served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His marriage to JoAnne Beard took place on December 30, 1954 in Davenport. She died in November of 1985. He married Mary Wagner on December 14, 1986 in Davenport. Doug worked as a lab technician for Alcoa in Riverdale until retiring.
A carpenter, an electrician, and a mechanic were some of the titles that could apply to Doug as these were some of his favorite hobbies. He was also a self taught musician and song writer and recorded several songs for his grandchildren.
Those surviving are his wife, Mary, Cambridge, two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Susan Trudell, Bettendorf, Randy and Nanette Trudell, Bettendorf, a daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Kevin Winkel, Port Byron, and three step sons, Tim Darchuck, Hayworth, CA, Matt Darchuck, Elgin, IL, and William Darchuck, Rockford, IL. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His parents, his first wife, three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
