Dorothy Marie Dynes Wildemuth, 97, died on February 27, 2023 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11am on March 7 at Fairview United Methodist Church in rural Annawan. Rev. Rolando Renteria will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on March 6 at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Annawan, and from 10-11am on March 7 at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
Dorothy was born January 24, 1926, in Annawan to George and Lois (Machesney) Dynes. She graduated from Annawan High School and Iowa State University (home economics). On August 3, 1947, she married Kenneth Wildemuth; they settled on a farm in Annawan Township in 1949, where they raised their three children.
Dorothy was very active in the Annawan community throughout her life. She played leadership roles in the Women’s Club, and was a 4-H leader for several years. She contributed pies to the Annawan Fun Days for many years, often being awarded first prize. She was a gifted seamstress, and served as a teacher and mentor to many young sewers, including all of her children and her husband. She maintained a regimen of swimming laps through her early 90’s and enjoyed breakfast with her swimming buddies.
She and Kenneth were also very active in the Fairview United Methodist (UM) Church, where she was a lifelong member. They were Sunday school teachers and youth leaders for a number of years, and served on many of the church boards. They were among the earliest participants in the UM Nomads Mission Volunteers, and for over 20 years were regular participants in Nomad service projects throughout the United States. They sewed over 20,000 school bags for students in other countries, in collaboration with the Midwest Mission Distribution Center.
Dorothy always had a smile for whoever she met. She reached out with a helping hand to a variety of friends in her community, providing advice on sewing projects, helping with a dinner, or visiting with someone who needed it. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her three children: Steven Wildemuth (Sharon), Barbara Wildemuth (Gaylen Brubaker), and Kay Fisher; five grandchildren: Greg Fuller (Benji Reyna), Brian Fuller (Nicole), Sarah Coyle (James), Charlie Fisher (Angie), and Eric Fisher (Stephani); and four great-grandchildren: Zachary Weaver, Isaac Fisher, Noah Fisher and Dawson Coyle. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Leila Hulting.
Donations may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
