Dorothy J. Runft, 97, of Sheffield died on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Heritage Health, Walnut. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 29th (Saturday) at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Father Mark Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the mass with a rosary recited at 9:45 a.m. on January 29th all at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Church or Sheffield Library. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Sheffield is assisting the family.
Dorothy Jane DeMay was born February 9, 1924, in Sheffield the daughter of Frank A. and Mary Josephine (Standard) DeMay. Dorothy graduated from Sheffield High School in 1941. On May 16, 1947, she married Wendell F. Runft in St. Patrick’s Church in Sheffield. Wendell died on December 31, 1999. Dorothy had been the librarian at the Sheffield Public Library for 25 years.
Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and its Altar & Rosary Society, and the Sheffield American Legion Auxiliary. She loved her family and her faith and enjoyed, reading, and working outdoors.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne & Larry Flint, Hudson, IL, and Annette & Greg Liechty, Zionsville, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Wendell J. and Diane Runft, Lake Forest, IL; 6 grandchildren, Brian Runft, Spencer Liechty, Trevor Liechty, Jennifer (Tom) Crown, Amy (Josh) Spalding and Lindsay (Patrick) Smith; Great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Gwenavier Spalding, Addison, Abigail, and Natalie Smith; sister-in-law, Vicky DeMay, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Michael Runft, and brother Ray DeMay.
