Dorothy F. Gustafson, 88, of Cambridge, died Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society - Geneseo Village. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 1st, at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Dorothy Frances Cantwell was born January 14, 1929 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alva F. and Dorothy V. (Kassebaum) Cantwell. She graduated from Davenport Central High School and worked as a bookkeeper at the Davenport Bank and Trust Co. prior to marriage. She married Robert W. Gustafson on September 6, 1952 in Davenport. He passed away September 15, 2012. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary shortly before he died. They had lived on the family farm in Andover Township which has been in the Gustafson family since 1875.
She was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, a charter member of Valley View Club, Cambridge, and a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church and served in many ways. Dorothy was a leader of the Country Belles 4-H Club for ten years. She enjoyed golf, reading, and sewing. Bob and Dorothy wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 17 years.
Those surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Bill Frank, Grimes, Iowa, Julie and Craig VanVooren, Moline, and a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Madeline Gustafson, rural Cambridge. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nicole (Tyler) Furek, Devin Frank, Kirsten (Frank) Nelson, Dane VanVooren, Christy (Corey) Foltz, Laura (Paul) Erlewine, nine great grandchildren, and a nephew, Rick Gustafson. Her parents, her husband, and a brother-in-law and his wife, Don and Virginia Gustafson, preceded her in death.
