Donald R. “Big Ed” “Blue” Matheny, 62, of Prophetstown, formerly of Cambridge, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at his home. Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life gathering will be from 2 to 10 p.m. on June 21st, (Sunday), at the Timber Campground, east of Cambridge. Memorials may be made to the Donald Matheny Memorial Fund in care of Debra Bloomer, 1936 W. 49th St., Davenport, IA 52806 or Doreen Allen, 518 S. Spring St. Geneseo, IL 61254. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Donald Richard Matheny was born October 22, 1952 in Kewanee, the son of Richard and Twyla Vincent Matheny. He was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1970.
Don worked at the Admiral Plant in Galesburg when he got out of high school. He then moved to Arkansas for a few years before moving back to this area. Don worked as a truck driver for area trucking firms. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed canoeing and collecting rocks and arrowheads.
Those surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doreen and Rick Allen, Geneseo, Debra and Keith Bloomer, Davenport, a brother, David Matheny, Cambridge, eight nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and great nephews. His parents and a sister-in-law, Sue Matheny, preceded him in death.
