Donald L. “Diamond Don” Collins, 65, of Neponset, died Saturday, August 15, 2015, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island. Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22nd, at the Galva Cemetery with military services by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be made to the Donald Collins Memorial Fund. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family.
Donald Larry Collins was born January 3, 1950 in Leon, Iowa, the son of Edward J. and Laura C. Webster Collins. He was educated in Geneseo schools. Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His marriage to Ellen Witt took place in December of 1970 in Rock Island. He worked for Winters Roofing in Moline from 1970 to 1987. He then moved to Florida where he operated D.C Hauling where he scrapped the metal from cars and air conditioners. Don moved back to Illinois in May of 2014. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching antique road shows.
Those surviving are Ellen Helton, Neponset, two sons, Eric Collins, Sheffield, Justin Collins, Indiana, five grandchildren, Skyler, Michael, and Brayden Collins, Galva, Samantha and Mya Collins, Kewanee, and a great granddaughter, Paityn. Other survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Don Manley, Davenport, Debi & Jeff Tucker, Maroa, IL; a brother, Frank Collins, Cambridge, a sister-in-law, Jean Rumley, Clinton, Il, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. His parents, a son, Ben, a sister, Dorothy, and three brothers, John, Jack, and Dale, preceded him in death.
