Diane C. Clary, 78, of Coal Valley, formerly of Cambridge, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. There will be a visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 20th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. A private family committal service will be held on Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the UnityPoint Hospice or the University of Iowa Cancer Research.
Diane Carol Robinson was born May 20, 1938 in Moline, the daughter of Freeman F. and Helen Johnson Robinson. She was educated in Orion schools and graduated from Orion High School in 1956. Her marriage to Edwin A. Rathjen took place in April of 1960 in Cambridge. She later married George W. Clary on May 26, 1989 in Moline. Diane was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 33 years, retiring in 1996. She loved traveling to the beach with her family and going on cruises. Diane was always laughing and smiling and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Those surviving are her husband, George, a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Carol Rathjen, and a daughter, Kelli Daley, all of Coal Valley, and two grandchildren, Damon and Dylan Nimrick. Other survivors include a sister, Lois Ashley, Geneseo, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, two brother Gayne and Howard Robinson, and a sister, Ione Bestor, preceded her in death. The family would like to thank the staff at UnityPoint Hospice for all of their kind and loving care during this difficult time.
