Darleen J. Weber, 93, of Sheffield, IL. died peacefully Friday, August 4, 2023 at Somerby Senior Living in Franklin, TN. Darleen was born December 10, 1929 in Palatine, IL the daughter of August and Justina (Kohler) Langhoff. She grew up on a farm across from what is now known as Arlington Racetrack. Darleen took the train to work at Marshal Field’s in Chicago to save money for college. She graduated from Palatine High School, Cornell College in Iowa and Augustana College. She married Clarence J. “Jack” Weber, Jr. of Evanston, IL on August 26, 1950 in Palatine.


Survivors include her four children, Gretchen Weber, Chicago, IL, Ronald (Tamara) Weber, Franklin, TN, Kristin (Michael) Wagner, Troy, IL and Anne (David) Cook, Coon Rapids, MN; granddaughter, Nicole (Sean) Egan and grandsons, Scott Weber, August “Gus” (Melanie) Wagner, Matthew (Abby) Cook and Nathan Cook. Great grandchildren Ava Eagan and Jack Eagan. She is survived by one sister, Jean Zimmerman of Palatine, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Weber and son, John Weber. Darleen and Jack met at Cornell College and moved to Sheffield in 1950 where they began a family. Darleen held many interests and quickly became involved in the community. She had three children when Jack was stricken with polio in 1956. She had two additional children and then pursued her teaching degree at Augustana. She enjoyed teaching at the elementary school in Sheffield. She served on the church board of First United Church of Christ and played the organ there for many years. She was a loyal and dedicated caregiver to her husband when his polio was complicated by Parkinson’s disease.


Her interests included playing the piano, reading, bridge, Dilettantes club, vacationing at Kentucky Lake and after Jack died, listening to music at Brothers Pub. Darleen adored the Sheffield community. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Visitors may call on the family between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21st at the First United Church of Christ Sheffield.  A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church.  Private interment will be held in Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation services is assisting with the local arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the First United Church of Christ, Sheffield, IL. or The Sheffield Town Hall Project.
