Cheryl A. Johnston, 68, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Cremation had been accorded and a memorial visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. August 27th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. A private family graveside service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with Rev. Ron Clevenger officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
Cheryl Ann Fike was born March 27, 1948, Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Darl W. and Rosemary Ramsey Fike. She was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1966. Cheryl then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb and graduated in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics with a minor in Art . Her marriage to William H. Johnston took place in August of 1971 in Cambridge.
She ran the Sunshine Preschool out of her home until the early 1990's and then operated the Blumen Laden flower shop there until 2000. Cheryl was an antique dealer after that and had a booth in the Galesburg Antique Mall for 19 years. She also was an EMT, served on the Kewanee Hospital Board, and was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving disaster areas in different parts of the country. Cheryl enjoyed gardening and especially shopping.
Those surviving are her husband, Bill, a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Tim Maguire, Indianapolis, IN, a son Shawn Johnston, Cambridge, and a granddaughter, Sidney Oberbeck. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, cousins, and her two cats, Sophie and McKenzie.
Her parents, an infant sister, Mary Lynn Fike, and a brother, Roger Fike, preceded her in death.
