Charles Dilenbeck

January 24, 1927 — August 27, 2014

Charles E. Dilenbeck, 87, of Geneseo died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. at Hammond Henry Long Term Care, Geneseo.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30 th at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.  Rev. Christopher Ritter will officiate.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St. Geneseo.  Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association and the Henry County Humane Society, Geneseo.

Charles was born January 24, 1927 in Colona, IL the son of John L. and Dora E. (Hutchinson) Dilenbeck.  He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 – 1946, serving in the Philippines.  He was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Fortune Wright on October 10, 1958 in Davenport, IA.  She survives.  He farmed on the family farm until retirement in 2001.

Charles was a member of Geneseo First United Methodist Church, the VFW, Henry County Farm Bureau, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed reading, the ocean and ships, and he had a passion for knowledge, knack for trivia, and an uncanny wit.  He was a very generous and understanding soul, and he loved candy.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean; three daughters and a son-in-law, Shelle Gucker, Valley Center, CA, Tracy Dilenbeck, Geneseo, and Gina (Bob) Ashley, Geneseo; and a grandson, Camden Holper, Andover.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lew Wright, and a sister, Anita Swiger.
