Carl W. Goff, 83, of Cambridge died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Seminary Village, Galesburg, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded and per the family’s wishes services will be held privately on Saturday, May 6th. Interment is in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Cambridge Ambulance or the Cambridge Fire Department. Carl was born to George and Helen (Carlson) Goff on July 7, 1939 in rural Oquawka, Illinois. He was the middle child of three children and spent his childhood in Little York and his dad owned and operated Goff’s Service Station. He met the love of his life, Betty Estes on a blind date in 1957 and they were married on July 7, 1961 in Kirkwood, Illinois. Carl graduated from Monmouth College with his Bachelor degree and Western College, Macomb with a Master’s degree. He started teaching and coaching at Yorkwood High School in Little York, Illinois in 1961 to 1967. The he and his wife moved to Cambridge High where he taught and coached. He coached football till 1979 and then girls basketball. He took the girls basketball team to play at the first game of State tournament in Champaign in 1985. He was nominated into the Hall of Fame at Champaign and Cambridge High along with his girls basketball team. Carl retired in 1998. He also managed the Valley View swimming pool, golfed and enjoyed being with friends, enjoyed reading a lot and staying at home watching football games and movies.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty; mother-in-law, Lois Paulson, Monmouth, Illinois; sister-in-law, Diana Goff, Macomb, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and a great great grandniece. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark; his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Ray; his grandparents; and other relatives.
