Bryan S. Underwood, 58, of Cambridge, died Thursday, October 26, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a year and a half battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. The police chaplain, Rev. Lynn Bergren, will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Fire Department or the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation.
Bryan Scott Underwood was born December 28, 1958 in Kewanee, the son of Roy Gene and Joyce Reilly Underwood. He was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1977. He attended Black Hawk College, Moline, and received an associate degree in law enforcement. His marriage to Sue Bayless took place on July 25, 1981 in Cambridge. He had been employed at the Cambridge Veterinary Service, Triangle Construction, and CSI Homes, all of Cambridge.
In June of 1994, he went to the State Police Academy. After completing his training at the academy, Bryan was employed in District Seven of the Illinois State Police and worked there his entire law enforcement career, retiring December 31, 2015. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 41, and had served on the Cambridge Fire Department for ten years. His hobbies were hunting, NHRA Racing, and wood working.
Those surviving are his wife, Sue, his children, Bennett and Brittani Underwood, both of Cambridge, and Marissa Underwood, Normal, IL, and a granddaughter, Brynley, who was his pride and joy. Other survivors include his mother, Joyce Becker, brothers, Brett (Jennifer) Underwood, and Grady (LaVon) Underwood, all of Cambridge, and several aunts and cousins. His father, Roy Gene Underwood, preceded him in death.
