Betty M. Gainey, 88, of Orion, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. June 18th, (Saturday) at the Orion United Methodist Church. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Interment of cremains will be in Grace Church Cemetery, rural Osco. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Betty Gainey Memorial Fund. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, assisted the family with the arrangements.
Betty Marie Crouch was born February 15, 1934, in Munson Township, Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Pearl Palmer Crouch. She was educated in a rural country school and graduated from Orion High School in 1952. Her marriage to Darrell "Diz" Gainey took place on August 21, 1954 in Andover. He passed away on June 29, 2019.
She enjoyed playing golf. Betty worked as a beautician. Her memberships include the Orion United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, all of Orion. She was a diehard St. Louis Cardinal, Chicago Bears, and Fighting Illini fan.
Those surviving are her children, Brad (Diane) Gainey, Orion, Joann (Kerry) Gannon, Orion, Tami (Jerry) McCormick, Lawrenceburg, IN, Jeff (Erin) Gainey, St. Charles, IL, and Bruce (Heather) Gainey, Colona. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Matthew Gainey, Stephen (Danielle) Gainey, Mark (Lauren) Gannon, Heather (Jamie) Stringer, Justin McCormick, Michael (Diane) Gainey, Elizabeth Gainey, and Nicholas Gainey, seven great grandchildren, Aidan, Avery, and Allie Stringer, Henry and Mae Gainey, Grace and Luke Gannon, and a sister, Rosalie Garrett, Cambridge. Her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, Kaitlin Gainey, a daugher-in-law, Loretta Gainey, a sister, Virginia Bubon, and a brother, Alan Samuelson, preceded her in death.
