Betty Abbott was born November 16, 1928 in DePue, IL the daughter of Ralph and Bessie (Henderson) Abbott. She graduated from DePue High School in 1946. She married Glenn W. Ellis on Aug. 4, 1946 in DePue, IL. He died on July 27, 2005. Betty had owned and operated the Stitching Post in Sheffield for many years. She had also worked as a rural carrier for U.S. Post Office in Sheffield until retiring in 1989.
Memberships include First United Church of Christ, Sheffield where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a bible school teacher and active in many church groups. Betty was also a member of the Sheffield American Legion Auxiliary and Sheffield Womens Club. She had been a camp fire leader, 4H Leader, and Cub Scout leader. Betty had also held offices in the church and Womens group. She enjoyed playing bridge, doing needle work and flower gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Patty (Rich) Osborn, Springfield, IL; son, Jeff (Denise) Ellis, Walnut; three grandchildren, Heather (Craig) Creel, Dawson, IL, Bethany (Caroline) Ellis, Auburn, Massachusetts and Jeremy (Jackie) Ellis, Walnut; seven great grandchildren, a step great grandchild, a great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Marge Rodgers, two brothers, Virgil Abbott and Charles Abbott, and an infant son, Ronald.
