Bernice Witte

Bernice I. Witte, 100, of Galva passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her home.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 ^th at Galva Cemetery.  Rev. Karen Martin will officiate.  Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Galva, or the Henry County Humane Society.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bernice Bergland was born Feb. 3, 1914 in Galesburg the daughter of Victor and Tillie (Carlson) Bergland.  She graduated from Galva High School in 1932.  Bernice married Carl W. Witte on Nov. 27, 1935 in Toledo, OH.  He passed on April 9, 2004.  Bernice was a homemaker and member of Grace United Methodist Church, Galva.  She enjoyed going out to eat loved music and following sports especially the Cubs and Bears.  In her younger years she liked to fish and dance.

Survivors include Carl’s niece and her husband, Jean & Mike Hadsall and family; nephew and his wife, Tom and Vonnie Witte and family; and cousins, Pat Sherman, Anita Sherman, Steve Sherman, Alan Carlson, David Carlson, Cathy Craig, Jim Carlson, Myrtis Collinson, and Delores Boltis.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Forrest; and cousins, Scyrill Sherman and Laverne Carlson.
