Benny R “Lefty” Morey, 87, of Mineral, died on Monday, January 11, 2021, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Mineral United Methodist Church, Mineral. Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Interment was in Mineral Township Cemetery on Saturday, January 16th. Memorials may be made to Mineral United Methodist Church or Hillcrest Home. Stackhouse-Moore, Annawan is assisting the family with arrangements.
Benny was born January 14, 1933, in Mineral, IL the son of Raymond E. and Ula M. (Ullrich) Morey. He was raised and educated in Mineral graduating from Mineral High School in 1951. Benny married Phyllis Rakestraw on June 7, 1951, in Princeton, IL. She died on Sept. 27, 2012. Benny had worked for Robinson Farm Service, Goodrich Implement, Morey’s Standard Service, and finally at Case I-H, East Moline where he retired in 1999.
Memberships include Mineral United Methodist Church, Grand Lodge of IL A.F.& A.M; Scottish Rite, and UAW Local 1304, East Moline. Benny had served on the Mineral-Gold Fire Department for 20 years, on the Annawan School Board and Mineral Township Cemetery Board. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following their activities. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. He especially enjoyed baseball and basketball.
Survivors include his son, Dwight (Linda) Morey, Annawan; daughter, Pam Morey, Mineral; grandchildren, Jeremy (Heather) Morey, Monica Morey, Robert Morey, Jody (Jennifer) Junis, Angela (Kevin) Drinkall, and Jamie (Ashley) Junis; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jonas, Felecia, Gage, Ravin, and Aubry Morey, Jacob, Noah, Gracie, Caleb, and Cy Junis, and Chelsea Drinkall; great-great-grandchildren; Jones, Nelly, and Jett Junis and Charlotte and Cay Leigh. Also surviving are his brother, Glenn Morey, and sister, Nancy Nanninga, both of Mineral along with numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, great-granddaughter, Addison Morey, in-laws, Roy & Cecelia Rakestraw, brother-in-law, Donald Nanninga, and sister-in-law Helen Morey all preceded him in death
