Avis Nordstrom

Avis Louise Nordstrom (nee Soderholm), 89, of Geneseo, formerly of Annawan died on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25th at First United Methodist Church, 302 N State Street Geneseo, IL 61254.  Rev. Dan Wright will officiate.  Memorials in honor of Avis may be made to Annawan Community United Methodist Church, 201 S Main St. Annawan, IL 61234.

She was born September 19, 1926 in Geneva Hospital, Geneva IL and grew up on Wilson St in Batavia.  Her parents were Constance (Johnson) and Arwood Soderholm.  She attended St. Joseph School of Nursing and became a registered nurse, and she was proud of the horses that she owned.  She loved to travel and was proud of her career. She married Charles Budd Nordstrom June 8, 1957 and they lived many years in Lombard, IL where she was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council and volunteered as camp nurse for youth events.  She loved singing and camping and was involved in many volunteer activities.  She moved to Annawan, IL and later to Geneseo, IL and was a member of the Annawan Community United Methodist Church and several other groups.  She lived at the Good Samaritan Society of Geneseo for the last years of her life, and treasured the loving staff there.  Because of her respect for the medical community and her selfless nature, she has donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois.

She is survived by her daughters Alon Nordstrom and Heidi Houdek (of Gurnee IL), her grandchildren Kurtis, Carly and Libby, sister, Helen and brother Ralph Soderholm, Colona, IL
