Alonzo C. “Lonnie” Turner, Jr, 75, of Mineral, IL died on Friday, March 24, 2017 while traveling in Rockport, Texas.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 1st at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Sheffield.  Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate.  Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded after the services and inurnment will be at a later date in Mineral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salvation Army, Mineral United Methodist Church, Freedom House, or the Western Bureau County Food Pantry.

Alonzo Charles Turner, Jr was born August 15, 1941 in St. Louis, MO the son of Alonzo C. Turner, Sr. and Anna (Gradley) Turner.  He was raised and educated in Mineral, IL graduating from Mineral High School in 1959.  Lonnie married Judith Gorey on Jan. 15, 1961 in Kewanee, IL.  He earned an associate degree from Blackhawk College West Campus in accounting.

Lonnie worked as a journeyman tool and die maker for International Harvester, East Moline for 32 years retiring in 1990.  After retiring he was a manager for CO-OP, Geneseo for an additional 15 years.

Memberships include Mineral United Methodist Church and the UAW.  He had served as Mayor of Mineral for 12 years.  Lonnie was a perfectionist in all he endeavored.  He enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling, and rolle bolle.  He was a fabulous dancer and loved to dance with his wife.  He was a friend to all and never met a stranger.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Judy; three daughters, Diana (Jarrod) Loerzel, Johns Island, SC, Michele Turner-Scott (Jay Scott), Neponset, Becky (Brett) Gibson, Sheffield; a son Alonzo C. Turner, III (Jeffery Johnson), Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Kelli, Justin, Emali, Adam, Corrine, and Kenneth; great grandchildren, Damon, Gavin, Haily, Zoey, Owen, Nolan, Parker, and Charlotte; sister, Muriel “Bootsie” Schaefer, Urbana, Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
