Alberta Lela Hunter was born September 18, 1912 in Erie, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Daisy (Ballard) Hunter. She attended Valley School in rural Fenton, IL. Her marriage to Theodore A. Herrick took place on April 26, 1930 in Sterling. He died on October 9, 1995. Alberta worked for 20 years as an editorial clerk at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1974. She attended church at the World Thrust Christian Center in Orion. Alberta’s family was the highlight of her life
Those surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Ghlea and Chuck Manthei, Cambridge, Carole Conard, Independence, MO, three grandchildren and their spouses, Deb (Poel) and Jim Nelson, Normal, IL, Terri (Poel) Grove, Blue Springs, MO, and Mike Poel, Cordova, IL. Other survivors include five great grandchildren and their spouses, Leah and Eric Rhodes, Normal, Aaron and Amy Nelson, Normal, Jared and Michelle Nelson, Edwardsville, IL, Olivia and Tim Autry, Gladstone, MO, Jessica Grove, Kansas City, MO, seven great great grandchildren, Micah, Rachel, and Josiah Rhodes, Joshua, Asher, and Elliana Nelson, all of Normal, and Eve Nelson, Edwardsville. Her parents, her husband, five sisters, Fern Hamilton, Lilah Hamilton, Ruby Watkins, Erma Dennis, Nada Lain, and a brother, Robert Hunter, preceded her in death.
