Albert A. Poma, 87, of Cambridge, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Graveside committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17th, at the Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Sheriff''s Department.

Albert was born March 4, 1922 in Rock Island, the son of Joseph C. and Alida Z. Velghe Poma. He attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1940. Albert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His marriage to Minnie Humphrey took place on September 3, 1971 in Milan. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as an industrial engineer technician from 1940 until retiring in June of 1973. His memberships include the V.F.W. Post 1303, Rock Island, the National Rifle Association, and Modern Woodmen of America. Coin collecting and home improvements were his hobbies.

Those surviving are his wife, Minnie, Cambridge, a son, Joseph C. Poma, Rock Island, two step-sons, Robert Verheye, Berryville, AR, and Ron "Trog" Spence, Cambridge, and two step-daughters, Mary Beth Arnold, Matherville, and Terri Dole, Cambridge. Other survivors include three grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and eight step great grandchildren. His parents, a daughter, Tonda Lynn Poma, and a step son, Jerry Verheye, preceded him in death.
