A. Margaretha Scott, 97, of Geneseo died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17th at First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. David Esche will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo.
Anna Margaretha Elliott was born January 10, 1912 in Edgington, IL the daughter of Guy Hamilton and Emma Margaretha (Fuhr) Elliott. She married Russell Venable in 1930. She later married Chester Scott of Osco on Sept. 3, 1958. He died in 1984. Margaretha spent most of her life in the Quad City area. She worked for Royal Neighbors of America in Rock Island for 24 years retiring in 1974. She then was Osco Twp. Assessor for four years. When her husband retired they moved to Geneseo.
Memberships include First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo, Camp #281 Royal Neighbors, and Women of the Moose Chapter 577, Geneseo.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Venable, Bettendorf, IA and Phillip and Linda Venable, Geneseo, grandsons and spouse, Richard Venable, Pleasant Valley, David and Nicole Venable, Yorkville, IL; a granddaughter and spouse, Terresa and John Porizek, Plano, TX; a grandson-in-law, Dick Moeller, Geneseo; step grandchildren, Mark Andrews, Bettendorf, Mike Andrews, Bettendorf and Connie Lynne Gaguski, Lawrenceville, GA; twelve great grandchildren, Brian, Tina, Amber, Shannon, Heather, Courtney, Joshua, Ryan, Emily, Kayla, Elizabeth, and Sarah; and two great, great grandchildren, Mallory and Nolan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester; daughter-in-law, Mary; granddaughter, Colleen; and two brothers, Arvis and Lorin Elliott.
