Betty J. Arndt, 94, formerly of rural Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Bickford Assisted Living & Memory Care, Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 12th from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cambridge United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00. Pastor Lisa Unger will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Academic Foundation.
Betty Joanne Wagle was born May 4, 1928, in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of Richard H. and Jane F. Waters Wagle. She was educated in East Moline and graduated from United Township High School in 1946. Betty attended Augustana College for two years and then worked at the Arsenal for two years. Her marriage to Robert W. Arndt took place on April 22, 1951, in Colona. He passed away on February 3, 2016.
She was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. Her memberships included the Cambridge United Methodist Church, the Henry County Porkettes, and the Edwards Valley Card Club. Betty helped out at the Kewanee Library tutoring in the Literacy Program. She enjoyed writing short stories and won an award from the Mississippi Writers Conference. She and her husband loved to go dancing. She also loved reading and her gardening.
Those surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna and David Brewer, Cambridge, Marta and Tom Wohrley, Parker, CO, and Jennifer and Brett Underwood, Cambridge. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Nathan (Heather) Brewer, Muscatine, IA, Erin (Justin) Boberg, Plainfield, IL, Jared (Aimee) Brewer, Cambridge, Heather (Mike) Walsh, Ft Worth, TX, Meagan (Hunter) Olson, Geneseo, Emily (Josh) Stokes, Robert Wohrley, Parker, CO and Neil (Anna) Wohrley, of Lone Tree, CO, thirteen great grandchildren, a sister, Patricia Shafer, Etters, PA, and a brother, Gary Wagle, Galesburg. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
