Marvin E. Taets, 94, formerly of Sheffield a resident of Hawthorne Inn at Liberty Village, Princeton died there on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23rd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Sheffield. Father Mark Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Sheffield, with a rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association or VITAS Hospice.
Marvin was born October 24, 1923 in Gold Township, Bureau County, IL the son of Phillip and Elizabeth (Van Cauwenberge) Taets. He was raised and educated in Gold Township. On September 25, 1946 in Kewanee he married Mary Van Poucke, they had 66 years together before her death on Dec. 19, 2012. Marvin had farmed in the Sheffield area for 30 years until retiring in 1977 when they moved into town and Marvin worked for Bureau Service Co. until retiring in 1989. He had also worked at Kraft Cheese Factory and with Bureau County Assessor’s Office. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield and enjoyed family and friends, his faith, farming and growing things, building and fixing things, helping others, reading, fishing, getting mail, and following the activities the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids were doing.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Ann (James) Carter, Atkinson, IL and Nancy (Larry) Dynes, Atkinson, IL; son, Dennis R. (Sharyn) Taets, Fredericksburg, VA; daughter-in-law, Peggy Taets, Sheffield; 10 grandchildren, Carrie (Bill) Northcott, Kimberly (David) Hexter, Jenifer (William) Congdon, Scott (Jill) Dynes, Jonathan (Crystal) Taets, Adam (Danielle) Carter, Matthew (Amanda) Dynes, Michele (Robert) Gerstein, Tracey (Casey) Carton and Sarah (Joe) Kampe; and sixteen great grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Jack, Michael, Thomas, Ethan, Justin, Jackson, Bennett, Callen, Devin, Alexandria, Logan, Cole, Dominic, and Katie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Arlene Taets, brothers, Wallace and Raymond Taets, and a son Gary Taets.
