Esther A. Hetzel, 79, of Cambridge, died Monday May 7, 2018, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a private graveside committal service will be held at a later date in Red Oak Cemetery, rural Cambridge. There will be no visitation. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Esther Alleyne Humes was born April 17, 1939 in Good Hope, Illinois, the daughter of Everett L. and Beulah L. Stoneking Humes. She spent her childhood in Macomb, Illinois and was educated in Macomb schools. Her marriage to Donald E. Hetzel took place on July 4, 1958 in Macomb. He passed away on March 9, 2015.
The couple moved to the Quad Cities shortly after their marriage. She worked at Servus Rubber, Fresh Pack Candy, and later at International Harvester, retiring in 1982. Esther enjoyed listing to books on tape, spending time with her family, and talking with her friends on the phone.
Those surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Alan Anderson, Debra and Bill Ceurvorst, all of Cambridge, four grandchildren, Jamie (Lisa) Anderson, Moline, Aaron (Beverley) Anderson, Newark, DE, Lucas (Jennifer) Ceurvorst, Cambridge, Sam Ceurvorst, Cambridge, and three great grandchildren, Charlie, Nora, and Shae Ceurvorst. Her parents, her husband of 56 years, Donald, siblings, a granddaughter, Erika Anderson, and her beloved dog, Max, preceded her in death. Her daughter, Debra, would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Home, especially Julie Derick and Peggy Depauw, the staff at Compassus Hospice Care, and special friends, Jo Callander, Jill Dial, and Tammie Knuckles. Your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
