Donald G. Hogeboom, 90, of Annawan died on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Annawan. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Donald Hogeboom Memorial Fund.
Donald Gene was born on February 14, 1928 in Kewanee the son of Glenn and Nettie (Orr) Hogeboom. He was raised and educated in Kewanee and attended Kewanee High School. Don left high school and joined the Army serving in 9th Inf. Division during World War II. He was later called back to duty during Korean Conflict and served in the 44th Division Co K 123rd Infantry as 1st Sgt.. On June 19, 1950 He married Margaret E. Blake in Kewanee. She survives.
Don had worked at Walworth, Kewanee in receiving from 1946 to 1959 and then at Case I-H, East Moline from 1960 until retiring 1988. He was a member of the VFW Post 176, Annawan and Hooppole American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, pick (darts), traveling, Bears football and White Sox baseball. He loved to play cards & Monopoly with his sons and grandsons and was a role model to them and was loved by all. He also enjoyed taking care of his garden and yard and being outdoors, especially at his cabin on the Rock River.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; sons, Don (Marjorie) Hogeboom, Peoria, and Bill Hogeboom, Annawan; daughter, Jeanne (John) Zabloudil, Geneseo; grandchildren, Wesley (Molly) Hogeboom, Peoria, Lauren (Matt) Lenz, Peoria, Lucas Hogeboom, Geneseo, Logan Hogeboom, Geneseo, Ryan Carlson, Annawan, Brandon (Adrianne) Carlson, Geneseo, and Aaron Carlson, Coal Valley; great grandchildren, Zach Carlson, Graysen Carlson, Aliyah DeKezel, Braylee Carlson, Braxton Brants, Haze Hogeboom, Noah Hogeboom, Mason Lenz and Natalie Lenz. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Orville and Harold Hogeboom, and sisters Grace Skutnick and Alice VanHyfte.
