Blanche E. Hewitt, 109, of Sheffield died on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at her home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Father Mark Miller will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Sheffield where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Sheffield. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield, or Sheffield Public Library.
Blanche Elizabeth Vermeulen was born October 16, 1908 in Atkinson, IL the daughter of Alphonse and Carolina “Lena” (Lomme) Vermeulen. She graduated Sheffield High School in 1927. On June 12, 1935 she married Kennison W. Hewitt in Sheffield. He died on July 16, 1981. Blanche had worked at the Farmer State Bank in Sheffield for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Blanche loved to travel, and enjoyed walking. When asked the secret of her long life she often said “just keep going”.
Survivors include her son, Conrad W. Hewitt and his wife Linda, Napa, CA; daughter, Helen C. Hewitt, Brea, CA; grandchildren, Michael C. Hewitt, Huntington Beach, CA, William D. Hewitt and his wife, Shelley, Bellevue, WA, Mary Hewitt and her finance Steven Doolittle, Marina Del Ray, CA and Donald L. Hewitt and his wife, Frances, Pleasanton, CA; great grandchildren, Conrad K. Hewitt, Alexandra, Macallan, and Delaney Hewitt; nieces and nephews, Jim and Willie Hewitt, Sterling, Mary Jo Rosenow, Sheffield, Tim and Robin Hewitt, Sheffield, Marcia Hodgson, Mundelein, IL, and Michael Willey, Cape Canaveral, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Niel, daughter-in-law, Shirley Hewitt, brothers, Joseph Vermeulen and Mike Vermeulen, sister, Helen Willey, and nephews, Bob Willey, Dr. Jerry Vermeulen, and Ron Vermeulen.
