Beatrice Louise Larson was born January 23, 1932 in Kewanee, the third daughter of Frederick and Mary Jo Huizinga Larson. She grew up in Burns Township. Bea graduated from Galva High School in 1949 and was the valedictorian of her class. She then went to work at the Henry County Farm Bureau in Cambridge until she married Stewart E. Spivey of New Windsor on March 14, 1954 in the First Baptist Church of Cambridge. They farmed for several years in Kewanee and Weller Townships. He passed away on June 14, 1998.
Throughout the years, Bea was a member of the Cambridge Baptist, Kewanee Baptist, and Galva Baptist churches. She was a Campfire Girls leader in Galva and the playwright and program director for the Bishop Hill Community Club and 4-H Club Share the Fun night. Bea worked as a World Book representative and also at the Bishop Hill State Museum, the Henry County Museum, and the Galva Historical Society Wiley House Museum as a historical interpreter.
She loved country music and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Bea was an active member of a book club and passed her love of reading on to her children and grandchildren. She devoted her life to her children and many grandchildren who spent countless hours at her home. As a true American patriot, her favorite colors were red, white, and blue. She enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July with music, skits, poetry, and fun with family and friends on the front porch in Galva.
