Joel S. Scranton, 52, of Colona died Monday, September 17, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 21st at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Rev. Joe Kobernat will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Joel Scranton Memorial Fund.

Joel was born October 22, 1959 in Geneseo, IL the son of Francis C. and Mary Irene (Jobe) Scranton. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1977 and from Blackhawk College, Moline with an associate’s degree in electrical engineering. He married Ann Gabriel in November 1978 in Geneseo. Joel worked at Harrington Signal in Moline until his death. He loved to fish.

Survivors include three sons, Jeremy Scranton, Cedar Rapids, IA, Malachi Scranton, Colorado Springs, CO, and Justen Scranton, Marion, IA; his mother, Irene; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Judy Scranton, Franklin Springs, GA, Philip and Donna Scranton, Jasper, AL, and Timothy and Nancy Scranton, Erie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Joe Vest, White House, TN, Veda and Dale Riewerts, Geneseo, and Eula and Rob Lang, Lawrence, KS; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
